Short bio

Yuxin Chen is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Chicago and a member of the Committee on Computational and Applied Mathematics. His research focuses on interactive machine learning, including active learning, Bayesian optimization, reinforcement learning, and adaptive experimental design, with applications in scientific discovery. He received his PhD in Computer Science from ETH Zurich and was a postdoctoral scholar at Caltech before joining the University of Chicago. His work has been recognized with an NSF CAREER Award and a Google European Doctoral Fellowship.

Yuxin Chen is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Chicago and a member of the Committee on Computational and Applied Mathematics, where he leads the Interactive Learning Systems group. His research focuses on interactive machine learning, including active learning, Bayesian optimization, reinforcement learning, and adaptive experimental design, with applications in scientific discovery and autonomous experimentation. He serves as the AI/Workflow Lead of PoLARIS, an NSF-funded programmable cloud laboratory for polymer science. He received his PhD in Computer Science from ETH Zurich and was a postdoctoral scholar at Caltech before joining the University of Chicago. His work has been recognized with an NSF CAREER Award, a Google European Doctoral Fellowship, and a Best Paper Award at the ICML AI4Physics workshop.
